Welcome back to another blog post, today we will be doing research on how to get exceptional lighting while filming. When getting good light there are many components. Some components are ambient lighting, task lighting, color temperature, color quality, directional light, glare control, illumination level, soft light, and natural light. When trying to get superb lighting you want to use the three-point-lighting setup. The first point of lighting is a key light, which is the primary source of light usually placed on one side of the camera. The key light is the brightest light, and the purpose of the key light is to define shadows and give depth to the subject. Then you want to add a fill light so you can soften the shadows. This particular type of light is placed usually on the opposite side of the camera so it can help balance the light across the subject. Lastly you want a backlight so you can spilt the subject from the background, it usually sits behind the subject, and will add depth and dimension to the shot. There are also many tools that can help you achieve high quality lighting such as reflectors, diffusers, light stands, soft boxes, and tripods. The purpose of reflectors are to redirect the light being used on the subject, they also help create well-lit scenes. Diffusers are used to separate light to make it softer/lighter, and spread it out over large areas. Light stands are useful and they hold strobe lights and modifiers. Soft boxes are designed to diffuse light and create a more natural look. The tripod is used to keep the camera balanced, and prevent shaking. All of these tools have a special use in creating atmosphere, setting a mood, and breathes life into a scenes. Lighting effects aid in telling the intended story and create an experience for the viewer. Next up we will be researching how to take high level shots.
