Changes we Made

While filming we made changes to the film and had to improvise. We had several choices to make such as actor changes, prop changes, and script changes. All these changes were made on the spot making the film easier to shoot.

Actor Changes

Unfortunately our actor, Nathaniel Smith, had gotten sick so we had to take out the goalkeeper part from the film. We decided to add a referee to the film to make the film more realistic. We also changed Brenan's role of being a mayor to my dad's responsibility as he looks like a responsible adult. We also added some of my brother's teammates into the flashback to make it more realistic.

Prop Changes

As mentioned before we added a referee to the film so we thought it would be a good idea to use a red card to symbolize how bad the foul was when Gabo gets injured. We also selected a select ball to the film as it is a game ball that is well known.

Script

The referee in the film now has a line being before Gabo screams in pain. We decided for the referee to say something along the lines of, "are you alright son" using an over the shoulder shot. We also added in the beginning of the film to show the passing of the ball between the players only showing their legs and the ball. Another thing we added was Gabo nutmegging the defender then showing the defender being mad leading to him injuring Gabo.

Analyze

The choices that we made when filming made it a lot easier to come back from actors not being able to come. The choices also made me realize when filming the rest of the film we are likely to mae more changes so I will update on my blog the changes we make. So far we are on the right track to finishing the film.

Reflection

Filming the second, third, and fourth scene is the next step to the project. I think that the necxt thing should also be to edit what we have so far, scene 1. We should be able to meet up in class this week to finish the editing. Bye guys see you for our final product next week!

Music Choice

This blog post is about the research on music choice I conducted coming together with my team. During the research we came across some great tips to choosing the perfect soundtrack for our film.

What do Soundtracks do?

I found that soundtracks make films come to life and help create the tone and mood for the film. The soundtrack can be responsible for storytelling as well. They do this by building up pace in a scene, show a character changed emotions, and show a passing of time.

Identify the Mood of the Scene

When researching over several websites on soundtracks I found that knowing what the exact atmosphere in the scene is needed to produce a good soundtrack. I identified the opening scene as happy and enjoying the game, but slowly progress to something bad about to happen as it shows Gabo getting injured. By identifying the atmosphere the tempo should be fast pace and the rhythm should be progressive.

Music Choices

-MTG ARC Funk by Tokoyophile
This song will be for the build up in scene 1 as the ball is being passed around and Gabo nutmegs the defender. This will build the atmosphere making the film fast pace. The commentators voice will be over the music as it has no lyrics.
-Waking up by Reveille(Not the Bugle call)
This calm music will be background music for the credits to roll and for Gabo waking up from his nightmare. This will also be background music as Gabo makes his breakfast.
-Memories by Maroon 5
This selection is for the flashback scene showing how Gabo has memories of him playing younger in a tournament. This will make the scene feel sad and happy as he remembers and at the same time has lost the ability to play.

Things to Consider

On various sources I found that we don't always have to use dramatic music for climatic scenes. For example with the scene of Gabo getting hurt we could use an uplifting song. This could be on top of the world to create a sense of Irony because Gabo has just got hurt but he is on top of the world. Also it is important that the music cuts off at the exact time we need it to. As Gabo gets hurt the music could drop immediately or fade into the background.

Analyze

The choices that we made for the music was challenging as we had to find songs that relate to soccer. We had to use a website called sound stripe to find the perfect music. So far the music choices we made might change or we might add more. Overall we are on track.

Reflection

The next step for the project is to start to edit the film and add in the music choices we have made. We should be able to do this by Wednesday and finish with the film. Next we will be talking about changes we made.

Editing

Hi, welcome back to another post! This is the finial week of the blog post which means our post are coming to a end. Today we will be talking about how we will be editing our film.

We will start the editing by taking all the raw clips and putting them into adobe to add all them together. Once we transport them to adobe we will put them all into order and make it all one long running clip. Then we will take out all the cuts and to make it a smooth clip. Then we will start doing the opening credits, during the establishing shot all the people's  that were including in the film will pop up(their names). The names will be in a certain font to match the theme of the music that will be include. The music will are going to be using during the opening credits is MTG ARC FUNK, this song is very up beat to make our film interesting and fun. After the opening credits it will cut into the actually film. The next part will be editing is the flash back. For the flashback we will make the screen go white so it looks like a dream then it will cut to younger Gabo playing soccer, and all his highlights. In the background the music that will be playing is Memories by Marron 5. Then it will cut back to normal when his mom knocks on the door and he wakes up out the flashback . At the end of the film we will play the song "the great gig in the sky" to end it.

Reflection- The film will include many different song to set the tone and mood for the different scenes. Thanks for reading my post hope you guys enjoyed have a good day! Next blog we will be talking about Music choice.

Experiences While Filming

Hey guys, welcome back to another blog! This is the final week of blog posts which means our journey is concluding. Today we will talk about our experiences while filming at the soccer field.

We arrived at about 1-1:30pm to film our opening. Everyone was ready as we had our cleats, jerseys, balls and cameras. One of the fields was completely open for us to film which was really convenient as the other field had a game going on. We were supposed to film more but we mostly filmed the scene where Gabo got injured. There were a few tweaks we had to make but overall it was very similar. The weather was pretty mild but it is good as it makes the setting seem like it was an intense game in the hot sun. First, we filmed the whole scene on a GoPro but turns out it was sped up so we changed the camera equipment. After getting that arranged, we included a shot of the field. Then, we filmed a part where Gabo created a play with his teammates and got past the defender. The defender got mad and tackled Gabo which led to the referee running to check up on Gabo as he was yelling in pain. After this scene, it will cut to Gabo in his bedroom waking up. This was all done smooth and thoroughly as we faced no problems. After filming this part, we played soccer for a while with other people around.

Reflection: Our filming experiences went according to plan and we didn’t face any difficulties. We did however, add a few updates and tweaks which will be addressed in another blog post. The other scenes will be filmed very soon and edited before the deadline so stay tuned for that. Thanks for watching this blog and stay tuned for the last few blogs!

Script

Hello blogger, welcome back to another blog. Today we will be discussing the script for our brief. This script consists of the dialogue of characters in the story and the commentators watching the matches.

"Gabo down the line, its a one v one with the defender"- commentator
"oh no that looks bad really ba----"-commentator

"AHAHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAH" (yells in agony and despair) -Gabo- sound bridge into next scene

"uhuhuhuhuhu"- Gabo (pants waking up from a nightmare)
*Gabo gets dressed and then goes to kitchen*
*phone rings* "Hello, Mr. Smith?"- Gabo
"hi Gabo how have you been doing"- Dr. Smith
"hey Doc, I've been doing better"- Gabo
"Great to hear, well I've been examining your acl injury and I have some unfortunate news..."- Dr. Smith
"What is it?"- Gabo
"The damage done to  your bones seems to be irreversible, to be honest it looks like you won't play ever again"- Dr. Smith
*drops spoon in cereal*-Gabo (sad)
*walks to room*
*starts destroying things in room* "why does this happen to me!"- Gabo
*medal falls on floor* "clink"
*Gabo stares at it and then picks it up*
*Gabo then has a flashback*
“Gabo goes past one, past two, and now he scores!”-Commentator
“This kid will be great one day”-Commentator
“Here son, you’ve earned it”-Mayor (rewards Gabo with medal)
*Gabo smiles*
*Cuts back to the present*
*Gabo’s mom knocks on his door*
“Gabo are you okay?”-Gabo’s mom

Reflection: Most of the dialogue is centered around our main character, Gabo. The dialogue in the beginning represents a gloomy mood but the second half transitions to a happier mood (in the flashback) when Gabo was scoring goals all the time. Thank you for reading this blog and watch out for the next blog as we will be discussing the experiences while filming at the soccer park.
